BTS: Christmas Gone Wrong

1.) At this year's office party Rasheed brought his wife, Helen. Rasheed is African American and his wife, Helen, is Italian. They were eating drinking and having a good time with Rasheed's co-workers. Charles, who has worked with Rasheed for eight years is considered to be a friend. When Rasheed and Helen jokingly start bickering about who makes better christmas cookies, Charles, out of no where interjects "Hey man you betta be careful, you don't wanna end up like O.J.". Immediately, he sees Rasheed's face plastered with disgust and adds "just kidding, God you people can be so sensistive."

Case 4: Handling Interpersonal Conflict

Allison,

As Team Leader, I would like to suggest that you talk to Ken regarding his unprofessional behavior. It is important to discuss with him the expectations for getting the Brooks proposal accomplished in a timely fashion that ensures a successful outcome; that of securing the contract.

Recommendations: 1.) To be present and punctual at all scheduled meetings; 2.) To come prepared of the mutually agreed upon assigned tasks; and 3.) To be totally available in the process for working on the proposal. (no distractions in the meetings)

I would also like to suggest to you to remind Ken what a vital role he plays on this team and that he's input is essential to our success.

Memo to Vice President of Green Flag Solutions'

Re: Interdisciplinary Team

Brooks Request for Proposal

Planning, Research and Development

As we prepare to move forward on the planning, research, and development of the Brooks proposal, Ken has presented some challenges on the team. In getting this process launced he has cancelled two meetings. He has also been late, unprepared, and pre-occupied. This unprofessional behavior cannot be tolerated if we are to secure the Brooks proposal.

On behalf of the team, we are requesting your help to resolve these challenges with Ken. Attached are several documents that captures the aforementioned process.

1.) Allison's e-mail to Ken after receiving his phone message cancelling the 1st meeting; to schedule the 2nd meeting.

2.) Ken's e-mail to Allison cancelling the 2nd meeting.

3. )My e-mail to Allison with suggestions for an individual meeting with Ken and to discuss his performance challenges that are interferring with the success of the Brooks proposal.

4. )Allison's e-mail to Ken summarizing their meeting.

We look forward to your response in helping the team to move this process to next steps. Thank you for your immediate attention in this matter.

Don't Drop the Soap !!!

What's up with the governers these days, First, Kwame Kilpatrick and now Rod R. Blagojevich. The midwest must be putting something in the drinking water. I take it everyone has heard that they have voted to impeach him. Yet, It seems as though, based on his arrogance he was not anticipating this day would come. Unfortunately, for him, he doesn't have alot of fans. My advice to him while cuddled up with his bible in his cell at night, besides keeping one eye open that is, you know you've seen OZ, that if ever granted the opportunity to serve in a position of power again, think twice about abusing it.

Preparing for an Interview

1.)What inspired you to apply for this internship?

a.) The interviewer wants to explore my passion to do the job. This question can also be used to further assess or screen my motivation to achieve and to excel.

b.) My passion for politics as well as my pursuit of a degree in political science really inspired me to pursue this internship. I feel this will be an invaluable experience that would last a lifetime. I also feel it will give me a first hand view of how the government operates.

2.) What experiences have you had the prepared you for this opportunity?

a.) The interviewer is would able to assess my professional and personal background that would prepare me for this internship. Experiences also provides the context for the level, role, tasks, and responsibilities, I would be called to manage.

b.) My volunteer experiences as well as my with Victorious Life Coaching has really helped to shape my professional and personal background preparing me for this opportunity.

3.) What professional and leadership qualities do you possess for this internship?

a.) It is always important for job interviewers to experience how candidates are able to express themselves intellectually, socially and psychologically. Esssentially, the interviewer is posing a question on-going during the interview, "am I able to relate and respond to relevant questions regarding the internship" and "am I able to engage and connect with others".

b.) My ability to think critically, organize, and work well with others are three essential qualities I possess for this internship.

4.) Can you speak to how you work with others?

a.) Interviewers want to know how well I work with others, as this impacts on job performance and the delivery of program and service outcomes. This question provides the interviewer with a sense and pulse for my confidence and fit for their team.

b.)I work extremely well with others. I am a great listener, collaborator, and takes direction very well. My work with Victorious Life Coaching afforded me the opportunity to collaborate on group intiatives and project development planning.

5.) How do you define supervision? What do you look for from this process?

a.) Supervision is a critical part of any position or internship; the teaching-learning process of a job, more specifically, for that of an intern. The interviewer wants to evaluate how open I am to utilizing this process for learning and achieving my goals.

b.) I too define supervision as being a very valuable part of this process. I view it as a collaborative partnership to a full and rich experience. This is an opportunity for me to receive hands on training as w ell constructive criticism.
